Past Years 2002-2003 was a great year for the College Republicans at Stanford. With the help of Michael New, a PhD student in Political Science, in the spring of 2002, the Stanford College Republicans were re-founded by Travis Menk and Joe Fairbanks. As a result, the Stanford College Republicans officially returned to Stanford for the 2002-2003 school year for the first time in over three years with a vow never to leave campus again. Sept. 26, 2002-- Hosted Ramesh Ponnuru, Senior Editor for National Review, Hoover Fellow, Institute of Academic Affairs in London Fellow, and Author of The Mystery of Japanese Growth Oct. 2002-- Hosted Deroy Murdock, National Review Online contributing editor and columnist with the Scripps Howard News Service. Oct. 2002: President Joe Fairbanks tapes interview with The Today Show on NBC concerning American action in Iraq Nov. 2002--The Stanford Republicans agree to merge into the Stanford College Republicans Nov, 11, 2002-- Hosted Dan Flynn , Executive Director of Accuracy in Academia and author of the book Why the Left Hates America. Host in front of audience of 150+ people--standing room only!! read more. Nov. 2002--Stanford College Republicans assist in getting signatures for the Stanford Israeli Alliance Petition. The over 1500 signatures make Stanford the largest petition signing for the over 60 schools participating. read more. Dec. 12, 2002--Article published in the Washington Times detailing the rise of Conservatism at Stanford due to the emergence of the Stanford College Republicans. see Press. Jan 16, 2003--Organize Rally to support American Action in Iraq and the Hoover Institution's presence at Stanford University to counter rally against these issues Feb 19, 2003--Through S.E.E.D., Stanford College Republicans bring NAACP chair of Oakland, Shannon Reeves to campus. Feb. 22-24, 2003--Stanford College Republicans attend the California Republican Convention. Feb. 2003--Leadership of the Stanford College Republicans spends Lunch with Milton Friedman during the Hoover Lunch sponsored by The Hoover Institution and The Stanford Review March 2003--Sponsored a discussion at the Synergy House on various issues including American Action in Iraq May 2003-- Campaign for students to ask for ASSU refund against student organizations inappropriately opposing American Action in Iraq May 9, 2003--Host Dennis Prager with the Stanford American Jewish Coalition in front of over 340 people. Standing Room Only! May 13,2003--Article in Jewish World Review written by Dennis Prager detailing his week at Stanford and mentioning the help of the Stanford College Republicans. see Press. June 2, 2003-- Article published in the Washington Times detailing the rise of Conservatism across the nation including the incredible efforts of the Stanford College Republicans. see Press. |
